Renowned scientists and laymen alike are using blogs, microblogs and social networks to get their messages to the public. They are thereby eliminating the middleman and making topics like climate change available to a broader audience. But does this make scientific findings more transparent? What does science gain from direct contact with the general public and is it a positive experience? What are the benefits for everyday Internet users?
