Gerda Meuer

Director, DW-Akademie, Germany

Before taking the post at DW-AKADEMIE, Gerda Meuer worked as a journalist in various countries for more than 15 years. First she was a correspondent for the developmental press agency Inter Press Service Bonn with assignments in Latin America. For Deutsche Welle she worked in the newsroom for two years and then moved to Tokyo for five years to be DW's Asia correspondent. Back in Germany she became an editor of the German program of DW-RADIO and in 1999 became the deputy editor in chief. Beginning in August 2000, Meuer reported as the Europe and NATO correspondent for DW-RADIO from the Brussels studio of Deutsche Welle. In the middle of 2003 Gerda Meuer returned to the Bonn headquarters where she took over the newly founded DW-AKADEMIE. Meuer studied film and television, history and German language and literature as well as completed a traineeship in journalism with Deutsche Welle.
