Najib Ahmad

Program Director of Power-99

 

 

Najib Ahmad is a bold broadcaster with an experience of around two decades in electronic media.  Presently Mr. Ahmad is Director Program of Power-99-first to be on air among the new private radio channels in Pakistan. Besides his professional expertise, Mr. Ahmad was pioneer of web-based environmental radio in Pakistan.

Najib born in Abbottabad city of the North Western Frontier Province in 1962 and got his masters degree in History from the Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad in 1985. He joined state owned Pakistan Broadcasting service in 1988 as program producer until he resigned in 2002 to launch his own independent FM radio network. Najib's hardwork and dedication led the radio network of Power Radio FM-99 as the flagship of bold independent broadcasters. He gathered the new FM radio stations at the platform of the Association of Independent Radio (AIR) for protection of rights of new broadcasters. He was elected as chairman of the influential association.

Power Radio FM-99 is the one of the two FM radios banned by General Pervez Musharraf in November 2007 for covering opposition voices. His radio remained closed for 44 days and had to suffer severe economic loss. But he earned high esteem and respect for his firm stand in movement for restoration of democracy and human rights. He has won several awards for his achievements besides representing FM radio community of Pakistan at various global forums.
