Astrid Kohl
Astrid Kohl, head of the International Institute for Journalism (IIJ), joined InWEnt - Capacity Building International, Germany, in December 2006. Before that, she worked as an international media adviser in Kiev, Ukraine, and reported as a permanent correspondent on Eastern European affairs for the Swiss Daily Neue Zürcher Zeitung. She holds a master‘s degree in Slavonic and English studies from Hamburg University and was trained as an editor at the German School of Journalism in Munich. As the head of the IIJ she designed among others an advanced training course on the media's role in conflict transformation and peace building that is currently offered to mid-career journalists from West African countries. The IIJ training programme on multimedia and online journalism has been extended under her guidance and includes both basic training courses and specialised advanced courses focusing on new methods of reporting online and mobile, cross-media publishing and the management of online editions.
