Shala is specialised in radio projects and takes special interest in analyzing the role of media in global and local processes. She has extensively advised and lobbied with national, regional and international organizations and agencies that focus on media issues and democratization such as UNESCO, SWISSPEACE, OSCE, ICCO and ECCP. 

In the early 90s, Shala worked in book publishing and with United Nations in Tirana. She holds a MA in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies, the Hague and a BA in English Language from Tirana University.
