Claudia Acuña

Journalist

Founder and president of lavaca.org, a communication cooperative that has a news agency, a newspaper, a publishing house, a radio programme and a cultural centre, all spaces that are dedicated to spread information about civil organisations and the defence of human rights.

She is professor of Social Communication of the universities of La Plata and Cuyo, Argentina. She is director of the Cátedra Autónoma de Comunicación Social, where community media skills are being taught, and she has founded Alerta Argentina, a net of social organisations in defence of human rights which are concerned mainly with sex workers, marginalised workers, immigrants and indigenous people.

She is the author of El fin del periodismo y otras buenas noticias and Sin Patrón, fábricas recuperadas por sus trabajadores and editor of Ninguna mujer nace para puta.

She has received the Premio Rey de España de Periodismo gráfico.
