Owen Gaffney Director of Communications International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP)

Owen Gaffney joined the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme as director of communications in May, 2009. Previously he was head of publications at the Natural Environment Research Council in the UK. Gaffney is a journalist with a background in print and broadcast media. He has made a number of documentaries and worked as a news cameraman. His portfolio includes films about rapid climate change, UFOs and the paparazzi. He has a degree in astronautic and aeronautic engineering. Gaffney’s interests include global change research, oceanography, biodiversity, geology, anthropology, archaeology and science communications.
