Andrea Rübenacker

Head of Africa Division, Deutsche Welle Akademie

 

 

 Dr. Andrea Rübenacker is Head of DW-AKADEMIE`s Africa Division.

She studied journalism and theology at the Universities of Dortmund and Edinburgh.

Dr. Rübenacker a PhD in Journalism.  

As a  television journalist she worked for several public broadcasters such as WDR, ZDF and the BBC in London. She also worked as a reporter in Bangkok,Thailand, for an Asian news-agency.

In 2001 she was appointed duty editor for DW's news-magazine „Journal" and the recipient of the  „International Media Award for Interreligious Dialogue".

As a long-term consultant for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD )

Dr. Rübenacker moved to Cambodia in 2003 where she established the first journalism course at the Royal University of Phom Penh. Her lectures and seminars focused on print, radio and television journalism. For two years she taught the first generation of journalism students to emerge after the destructive Khmer Rouge regime. 

In 2005 Dr. Rübenacker moved to DW-Akademie as project-manager and became responsible for the training of television journalists from developing countries and emerging Asian nations. She conducted several courses on reports, documentaries, news journalism and editorial office management.

Currently Dr. Andrea Rübenacker is also a lecturer at the Institute for Journalism, University of Dortmund, and works as a television trainer for the „Institut zur Föderung des publizistischen Nachwuchses".
